Research Policy
We will:
- Answer all enquiries by letter or by e-mail within 10 working days or explain why a reply may take longer
- Offer advice on our collections and how to access them
- Perform quick, specific searches of records for free including
- Church and cemetery registers-event at a specfic church/cemetery on a precise date (or if date of death known)
- Directories- an entry for one individual address in oen electoral register.
- Maps-one area on one map for a particular date/edition
- Probate index-an entry for one person within a two year period
- Undertake, quick, specific searches that take no longer than 15 minutes for all other original archives that we hold, free of charge. This includes schools, hospital, asylum and workhouse registers
- Make prints from our microfilms of church registers for a fee of £2.50 when you know the specific church and precise date
- Provide a copy from our vehicle registration records for a fee of £5.00 when you provide the vehicle registration
We will not:
- Undertake searches of Manchester Cathedral registers but you are welcome to use our microfilm print service to order copies (see above)
- Undertake searches of newspapers
- Carry out detailed research. For longer research you will need to visit in person or employ a record agent. A paid service at a cost of £25 per hour, is available for searches within Prestwich Asylum records.
- Undertake more than 1 search on behalf of the same person within a twelve month period.
