The Historical Manuscripts Commission  (HMC) are worth a visit if you wish to search for the whereabouts of archives in offices other than the Public Record Office. The HMC also provides addresses and telephone numbers of archive services throughout the UK.

The Archives Hub is a searchable database of archive collections held in UK universities and colleges.

Access to Archives is a site containing details of 4.7 million catalogues of archives held at 326 record offices and other repositories.

There are many genealogical web sites catering for family historians. In this country there is http://www.genuki.org.uk while the US based Cyndislist is immensely popular with over 65,000 links to choose from.
