Access to Archives

Paul Graney Project Access to Archives PastFinder

Access to Archives (A2A) is part of the growing national archives network. It allows the researcher search across detailed catalogues in English records offices beyond the Public Record Office in London.  The Public Record Office in partnership with the British Library and the Historical Manuscripts Commission host a web site where searches can be made.

Greater Manchester is part of the North West regions contribution entitled "Our Friends in the North". At present the offices have contributed archives of associations such as trade unions and political parties. It is intended to start on submitting archival lists of family and estate papers as a next step in this project.

The project was officially launched on May 22 2003 at the John Rylands Library in Manchester by members of the participating record offices.  Catalogues can be accessed on the A2A web site, http://www.a2a.org.uk/
