Archives offer the history student access to primary material. Together with Manchester's Education Department GMCRO has created several educational activity packs aimed at key stages 1, 2 and 3.

There are three packs available, one of which is in Microsoft Word format and can be downloaded from the "Welcome"  page which explains all this in more detail.

New education resource!
Safety in Numbers: Life Inside Prestwich Asylum in 1900

We are delighted to present an innovative new Key Stage 3 teaching resource, with a local history focus and relevance for History, Citizenship and PSHE. The resource uses original source material from the Prestwich Asylum archives held by Greater Manchester County Record Office to enable pupils to trace the history and development of mental healthcare and examine changing attitudes and values towards the mentally ill. This resource has been created in partnership with Bury Church of England High School and Bury Archives Service, with funding from the Museum Libraries and Archives Council.

The full, enhanced resource (featuring additional source material) is available on CD Rom for teachers in Greater Manchester - please contact us to obtain your free copy. A standard version of the resource is also available as a PDF document with an EXCEL spreadsheet - please click here to download.
