Administrative files, 1948-1981. These relate to the construction and closure of individual hospitals, contracts for services, and legal files. The Regional Health Authority covers an area larger than Greater Manchester, so these records relate also to Blackpool, Burnley, Ormskirk and Preston.
The records of the Manchester-based predecessor of the Regional Health Authority, the Manchester Regional Hospital Board, are to be found within this archive. While the files have been integrated, the Minute Books form a separate series, and the following Committees are represented: Manchester Regional Hospital Board, 1947-1950; Area Nurse Training, 1951-1974; Building and Works, 1950-1974; Consultant Services, 1950-1974; Chaplaincy Services, 1960- 1974; Establishment, 1948-1974; General Purposes, 1948-1974; Geriatric, 1953-1970; Hospital and Specialist Services, 1949-1950; Joint Liaison, 1972-1973; Management Services, 1970-1974; Medical Advisory, 1948; North West Region Nurse Training, 1974-1981; Nursing, 1948-1974; Nursing & Midwifery, 1975-1981; Planning & Development, 1948-1974;

GMC Printed Minutes of Greater Manchester County Council, 1974-1986 Signed minutes and agendas of the committees and the meetings of the council. Papers of departments of the County Council amount to over 30,000 files.
Policy Background Documents, 1981-1986, are publications on topics such as housing, employment, and demographic trends in the county. They were published by the Planning department who also were responsible for implementing the structure plan for the county. The Record Office has a large amount of documentation concerning the latter.
Related to the County Council are papers concerning the activities of the Passenger Transport Executive. Formed as SELNEC PTE in 1969, the documentation deposited contains transportation studies for the whole county, bus timetables and publicity leaflets.
Following the demise of the GMC in 1986, the Residuary Body was formed to complete any residual work left over from abolition. The records deposited by the Residuary Body are similar to those of the GMC.
