| In 1877 the Seven Stars Inn,
situated on Withy Grove, had been licensed for over 500 years. It was at
the time the oldest public house in England. On the right of this pub
stands the premises of S. Dobell, a cheesemaker according to the trade
directory. |
The area has been extensively
re-developed since the late 19th century. The 1970s saw the building of
the Arndale Centre and consequently buried all trace of former buildings.
However, Adsheads map of 1851 indicates that the Seven Stars was on the
left of the above photograph |
